Freshman Year Approaches, as does Homecoming

Many questions always arise when homecoming rolls around. Will I have a date? How do I dance? Will I make a good impression? but one thing that may be over looked is "How do I Dance in High Heels"?

Instructions
1. Put on your high heels and stand before a full-lenght mirror. Practice placing the weight on the balls of your feet. Shift the weight from one foot to the other.

2. Take small rhythmic steps. Watch your feet in the mirror, and note your foot position if you feel unstable.

3. Practice simple steps away from the mirror. Keep your shoulders back and your posture upright. Be aware of your body. If you feel unstable at any time, take note of where your feet are placed and work on locking your ankles.

4. Pay attention to your core muscles, such as your abdominal wall. A strong abdomen and back are essential for good balance. Pilates can help strengthen your muscles, making it easier to balance on heels.

5. Practice the dance that you will need to do in public. By mastering the dancing steps privately, you will be able to appear to dance with grace in high heels when the time comes.

Tips & Warnings
- Start off with lower heels before progressing to higher heels.
- Wear heels with wider bases for more stability.
- Take it slow and remember to practice before going public with your new skill.
Also, before homecoming make sure your well aware of "heel pain". In the following link we provide information on the causes and treatments for heel pain, which may occur while sliding around in your high heels.
